Water Rail


The Water Rail  (Rallus aquaticus lives in North Africa, in almost all of Europe and Asia.





White-breasted Waterhen

The white-breasted waterhen (Amaurornis phoenicurus) is a waterbird of the rail and crake family, Rallidae, that is widely distributed across South and Southeast Asia.


Moorhen

The Moorhen (Gallinula chloropus) is a bird with an almost worldwide distribution.
The Moorhen is found at reedy shores and feed on small invertebrates, but also eat aquatic plants.
The nest is a floating platform constructed of plant parts and is placed in the reeds.

Coot

The Coot's (Fulica atra) distribution extends over western North Africa, Europe and large parts of Central Asia to Japan and south to Australia and New Zealand.

Coot swims and dives well. It makes a small jump just before it dive and stays usually only for a short period under the surface.



The bird feeds both of plant parts, such as aquatic plants and algae, grass on land, and small animals such as insects and mussels.

Little crake

Little crake (Porzana parva) breeds in Europe, mainly in the east and just into western Asia.This species is migratory, wintering in Africa.

The Spotted Crake(Porzana porzana) breeds across most of Europe and into western Asia. It is migratory and winters in Africa and India.

The Corncrake (Crex crex) breed in large parts of Europe and Central Asia to the east in a belt from Lake Baikal to the Urals. It is common in Russia, the Baltics and Belarus. It is a migratory bird, and has its winter quarters in Africa's southern subtropical region.
